A wide swing charge sensitive amplifier for a prototype Si–W EM calorimeter

A wide swing charge sensitive amplifier (CSA) has been developed, as a part of front-end electronics (FEE) readout ASIC, for prototype silicon tungsten (Si-W) based electromagnetic (EM) calorimeter. The CSA, designed in 0.35 $\mu$m N-well CMOS technology using 5V MOS transistors, linear operating range 2.6 pC w.r.t the input with power dissipation 2.3 mW. noise figure (ENC) 820 e$^-$ at 0 pF detector capacitance slope 25 e$^-$/pF achieved (when followed by CR-RC$^2$ filter 1.2 $\mu$s peaking time). This design CSA provides dynamic (ratio maximum detectable signal to floor) 79 dB when connected 40 pF. Using folded cascode architecture-based stage and low voltage high current mirrors load, an enlarged output biasing node towards one supply rail utilizing opposite rail. philosophy works both polarities large signal. paper presents negative anticipated positive polarity target application known scheme.
